I'm starting a zine called Doodlez, So...
Send me your doodles your personal notes, poems on napkins, your Socials Homework, and everything in between, pictures, little bits and bobs of any old thing... just make sure it's flat enough to photocopy!

You call them that because you can't think of a better word or maybe so you don't feel so guilty when you want to ask for something. Deep down, you don't even trust them. Oh, but don't feel too bad. They don't trust you either!

It's funny how we just sit there, talking, secretly hating each other, and cracking a joke every now and then to make it seem like things are okay. We're all losers. Yes, you too. We all are are, but we don't realize that because "we're right" and "not confused about what we feel". Yup.

Woodland Hills, CA. July 27, 2004 -- Southern California's HALIFAX has signed to Drive-Thru Records.
On Sunday, July 25th, lead singer of Halifax, Michael Hunau, officially announced on stage at their gig opening for Less than Jake at The Intersection in Michigan, their signing to Drive-Thru Records.

Backstage after Halifax's frenzied set, Hunau said "This weekend is one of those weekends I'll remember for the rest of my life. On Friday, Richard & Stefanie, co-owners of Drive-Thru Records, came to see us play the Main Stage at Hellfest in New Jersey, opening for the Ataris, Misfits, Sick of it All and Shadows Falls. After our set we spoke and made the final decision to sign our pending offer from Drive-Thru and that they were the right home for us. Tonight (Michigan's show) was the most amazing show for us, announcing on stage that we had just signed with Drive-Thru Records and looking out into the sea of thousands of kids and just seeing them cheering and going crazy."

Drive-Thru Records, who's distribution deal with Geffen Records expires on July 31st, will be announcing their new distributors in the near future. Kevin Donlon, bassist of Halifax, is "Confident that whoever Drive-Thru chooses for their new distributor, whether major or indie, is no matter what, the right home for us. We've been friends with Richard, Stefanie, and most of the Drive-Thru bands for a long time now, and it just feels right to be there."

Halifax is currently touring in support of their EP "A Writer's Reference" on No Milk Records, which is available on tour, at halifaxrock.com, and various mom & pop record stores. There are plans to have the EP re-released with new artwork and to remain on No Milk Records, but distributed by Drive-Thru Records.

This summer's touring plans for Halifax include their current tour with Victory Records recording artist Spitalfield, followed by a 2 1/2 week stint on Warped tour, and wraps up with a tour with Rufio. When September comes Halifax will start on writing and preproduction for their debut full length on Drive-Thru Records. The band plans on starting recording late this Fall for a Spring 2005 release.

WARNING: If you've never seen "Monster", starring Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci and don't want the movie spoiled, don't read this.

I just saw the movie "Monster", starring Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci. It was an incredibly good movie. Great acting and all. The ending sucked.

The movie is based on a true story.

My Summary:

Monster is about a prostitute, Aileen. When she was 8 years old, she was molested by her father's good friend. She told her father about it, but he refused to believe her and beat her. Because the man never got caught for molesting Aileen, it went on for years. A while later, Aileen found out that the guy had been killed in a car accident and was overjoyed.

At age 13, she started "hooking". She'd do this and afterwards, get treated like dirt by the men she'd been with. One guy beat her (the movie doesn't show him beating her, but the guy comes back later to get repaid for letting her off easy. He's a cop.)

At a bar, Aileen meets a young girl (about 18), named Selby. They hit it off, and Aileen spends the night at Selby's home. In the morning, they are discovered by Donna, the woman Selby lives with. Aileen rushes off.

Selby and Aileen meet later at a skating rink. Selby tells her about how her dad is sending her off in a few days to be saved or something. She says that a girl in church told everyone that she'd tried to kiss her.

Later, Aileen told Selby to meet her and they'd go to a motel. Aileen realizes she doesn't have the money to pay for a motel, so she goes out hooking. She gets a customer late in the night, and rides off with him. He drives her into the woods where he whacks her upside the head and brutally rapes her.

She breaks free, grabs her gun from her bag in the car, and shoots the man multiple times. She killed him. After hiding the body, she "borrows" his car and goes to Selby's place. She tells Selby she didn't meet her because she got into a fight, but Selby didn't seem to buy it. She then convinces Selby to stay in town another week.

After sneaking off to a motel for a few days, Selby returns home only to be criticized and yelled at by her dad and Donna. She then decides to grab her things and leave. Selby and Aileen live at the motel for a while. When they go broke, Aileen finds another customer. Before anything happens, the guy demands Aileen to do something. It reminds her of what the guy she'd killed said, so she freaks out and shoots the new customer, too. She takes his money and borrows his car.

(Two more killings go on after this, but I don't feel like writing about them.)

After wrecking a stolen car in an old couple's front yard, the two women are on the run. Sketches of them go out, and they seem to be cornered. Aileen gives Selby money and sends her off on a bus until everything blows over and they can be together again.

Aileen goes to a bar to use the phone to call Selby. While she's there, a biker-looking-dude offers her change for the phone. As they go to his car to get change, Aileen is surrounded and hand-cuffed. Aileen makes a call from jail to Selby. During the phonecall, Selby tells Aileen about how scared she is and keeps mentioning what Aileen did. Aileen tells her to cool it because the calls may be monitored. But Selby keeps bringing it up. Strange, huh? Here's the catch. Selby had the police listening to her call and was trying to get Aileen to confess to killing everyone on her own--so that she could live a "happy life".

I think Selby was so selfish, always complaining and worrying Aileen. She claimed she loved her so much. And in the end, she turns her in. In court, Aileen was crushed when Selby just put her out there. The real Aileen was executed in 2002.

If it was just some movie that was made up, I would've been okay. But to think that a real person actually went through most of this is the thing that gets to me.

If I didn't make it clear enough, Aileen and Selby turned out to be lesbians.
